Raila holds meeting with Oparanya, Orengo and Otiende Amolo

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has moved to forestall a fallout within his party.

To clip a tormenting rebellion, Odinga held a meeting with Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Siaya Senator James Orengo and Rarieda Parliamentarian Otiende Amollo.

The trio has been accused of lukewarm support for the BBI process, not supporting the party position and party leader on the BBI—a rebellion that has cost the Rarieda MP his position as vice chairman in the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

The meeting at Odinga’s Nairobi residence construed as the ODM party leader efforts to regain a firm hold of the party from internal wrangles and perceived rebellion.

The orange party leader meeting with perceived architects of the revolt, Governor Oparanya, Senator Orengo and MP Amollo who are accused of attempting to slow puncture the BBI process by going against the wishes of the party and its party leader

Raila’s meeting comes against the backdrop of a meeting of the three held in Oparanya’s rural home on Sunday.

Despite details of the meeting remaining scanty, the three are viewed as the poster children of defiance within the orange party and the Nairobi meeting likely to have a bearing on the Senate’s vote for the BBI bill on Tuesday.

The trip has been perceived as a loyalty pledge to the party boss—despite raising their reservations, Orengo and Otiende have restated their support for the BBI Billl

Amolo voted in favour of the Constitution Amendment Bill on Thursday, but by then, had lost his vice chairman slot in the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

His position was taken by Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang, ostensibly as a deterrent measure to other would-be BBI opponents in ODM

Plans to de-whip Orengo from the Senate Minority Leader’s job were shelved, after behind the scene intrigues.

The jostling within the Orange party is said to be informed by a post-Raila succession at orange house with the Kakamega governor and deputy party leader positioning and angling himself to take up the mantle of the orange party.

Meanwhile, the battle for the coveted nomination tickets in ODM strongholds could also be at play with Raila caught in the cross fire between allies who are competing for the same seats.
