Raila Odinga challenges President Kenyatta to a political contest

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to a political contest over the coveted presidential seat.

Addressing a gathering in Luanda, Odinga said that he does not fear President Kenyatta and is ready and to face him in the 2017 presidential election.

“I was able to defeat Mwai Kibaki in 2007, why would I fear Uhuru Kenyatta. I am not afraid of him and I am ready to face him in the presidential elections next year,” said Odinga.

He, however, said that electoral reforms are a must if the country is to realize free and fair elections next year.

He made metaphorical reference to IEBC’s alleged bias against ODM saying they have donned Jubilee jersey and hence cannot be trusted to conduct credible polls.

The CORD coalition leader further spoke unequivocally about his chances of winning the polls calling on his supporters to take up voter’s cards and take part in the polls.

“We cannot go to the polls when the referee is donning the jersey of the other team. We want full-dress reforms in IEBC that will ensure a fair ground for both teams.”

He further questioned the apparent goodies that Jubilee is dangling in Western Kenya saying they are aimed at swaying their support.

“What Jubilee is trying to do right now is to hunt for your votes by pretending to bring projects to Western. When I wanted to construct some of these roads here for instance, the then finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta denied me funds yet he is the one promising to make the roads now. It’s all deception.”

Deputy party leader, Wycliffe Oparanya, assured Odinga of the region’s support saying the Luhya community never left ODM.

“Some media are reporting that Raila is asking Western people to return to ODM. How can we return yet we never left?” he said.

Oparanya said the country is firm in ODM and cannot be lured into Jubilee through any means.
