Former PM Raila Odinga has sent a message of condolence to the family of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere following the death of his daughter Rosemary.

The last born in the family of seven children died on January 1, 2021 in Dar es salaam.

“To the family of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and the people of Tanzania, I join you in mourning Mwalimu’s last born Rosemary who lived by her father’s patriotism, humility, and wisdom. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Wishing you Peace, Hope, and Strength at this moment of Grief,” Mr. Odinga said.

Tanzanian media reported that some of the country’s leaders visited the Nyerere home to condole with the family.

They include Dr. Angelina Mabula (Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development); Amb. Asha Rose Migiro (High Commissioner to Tanzania in the U.K); Bishop Josephat Gwajima (Kawe MP); Sospter Muhongo (former Energy Minister); Joseph Sinde Warioba (former Prime Minister of Tanzania); Stephen Wasira (former Minister of State) and Mr Lawrence Masha (former Home Affairs Minister).

“The family has lost a very important person, who besides being the daughter of the first president, lived her life like other ordinary people,” Retired Judge Warioba said.

On his part, Mr. Wasira said: “She was Mwalimu’s last born who demonstrated a big talent due to her intelligence.”
