Raila Odinga speaks on Kalonzo NASA exit remark

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has refuted claims that National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka will exit the coalition in seven days if not chosen the outfit’s flag bearer – as had been claimed by Minority Leader in the National Assembly, Francis Nyenze.

Nyenze, in a shocking statement on Wednesday, March 29, protested the continued delay to name a flag bearer in NASA, saying it could be a scheme to lock some candidates out of the August 8 poll. He said the alliance will be doomed if Kalonzo Musyoka is denied the NASA captaincy.

“If Kalonzo is not going to be the presidential candidate, there will be no NASA,” said Nyenze.

He gave the coalition seven days to convene a meeting of the national coordinating committee and affirm the MoU Kalonzo signed with ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2013.

However, Wiper Party Secretary General Hassan Omar, in a statement, said Kalonzo is in NASA to stay.

“Wiper is further conscious of its obligation to this nation and its posterity to bring to an end Jubilee’s misrule. Wiper believes that this can only happen through a broad opposition front to face Jubilee during the August 8 General Election,” said Senator Hassan Omar.

Raila Odinga has now asserted strongly that Kalonzo’s devotion to the coalition is unshaken.

Speaking in Kisii, Mr Odinga said their commitment to sending Jubilee home is on course given Kalonzo’s renewed assurance.

“Kalonzo is not leaving NASA! I spoke with him this morning and he assured me of his full commitment to the coalition. Those speculating Kalonzo’s exit from NASA are making a noise that would not deter us from pursuing our mission as a coalition,” said Mr Odinga.

“Jubilee administration has launched a plan to disintegrate us but I want to tell them that their plans won’t succeed. As the NASA coalition, we’ll march forth united. We won’t break apart. NASA is the only political outfit that would root out Jubilee administration from power.”
