Raila refutes reports he will form government in exile
Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Thursday refuted claims that he intends to form a parallel government while in exile after he is sworn in as the “People’s President” on January 30.
This comes after the Daily Nation quoted the NASA leader as having vowed to form a rival government from exile during an interview with the Voice of America (VOA).
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) dismissed the report as misleading saying that Mr. Odinga was quoted out of context.
“Our attention has been drawn to the headline story “I may form government from exile” on the Daily Nation newspaper today purportedly quoting Raila Odinga on the planned swearing in ceremony on the 30th of this month,” the statement reads.
“The author of the story took excerpts from Mr. Odinga’s interview with the VOA where he said, “Should the government try to stop the intended swearing-in ceremony (which he again said is unlikely), then the only other option was to hold it outside the country.”
