Raila reiterates call to Kenyans to ignore Punguza Mizigo campaign
The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report will be the only legitimate document for the referendum question, ODM leader Raila Odinga has said.
On Saturday, Raila maintained his stance urging Kenyans to reject the Thirdway Alliance Party’s Punguza Mizigo (Kenya constitution Amendment) Bill 2019.
According to him, the Punguza Mizigo draft was not consultative and the BBI is the only taskforce that traversed the country seeking people’s views.
He was speaking during the burial of former Gem MP Joe Donde’s mother Mama Eva.
The former Premier said the BBI team is currently in the process of writing its report which will be made public for Kenyans to interrogate.
“It will inform the referendum question which will be drafted in form of a Bill and be taken to the members of the public through county assemblies for consideration,” he added.
Raila was flanked by several ODM legislators including Siaya Senator James Orengo, MPs Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Samuel Atandi (Alego/Usonga), Otiende Amolo (Rarieda), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Dr. Christine Ombaka (Siaya County) and their Kisumu Central counterpart Fred Ouda who echoed sentiments against the Punguza Mizigo Bill.
