Raila rubbishes claims that Mt. Kenya elders endorsed him for 2022

ODM leader Raila Odinga has denied reports that the visit by Kikuyu elders at his home father’s home on Saturday was meant to endorse his 2022 presidential bid.

The ODM leader stated that the meeting was meant to cement the relationship between Kikuyu and Luo communities and other communities should come on board.

“Jana tulikuwa hapa na wageni wengi sana kutoka mlima Kenya. Walikuja kututembelea kama marafiki tukasema kwamba hiyo urafiki sio tu ya makabili mbili tu lakini urafiki tunataka ienee katika taifa letu lote. Wakenya waungane pamoja ili waweze kutembea pamoja. Hiyo ndiyo sababu ya mkutano wa jana,” he said.

Mr. Odinga was speaking during a fundraising at the St. Michael’s and all Angels Cathedral Bondo ACK church in Bondo on Sunday.

“Waandishi wa habari ambao walisema ati jamaa walikuja hapa kuteua Raila, hapana! Mseme ukweli. Hakuna mtu alisema mambo kama hayo,” he added.

Nairobi businessman Jimmy Wanjigi who was the chief guest at the fundraising stated that now Jubilee party is crumbling, those who support Mr. Odinga should join ODM.

“I am also a life member of the ODM party. Kuna watu wamekuja hapa kutoka mlima Kenya. Kama wanapenda Raila namna hiyo waingie hii chama. Hata hiyo nyumba yao (Jubilee) imebomoka. Imeisha hiyo. Waje ODM kama wanakupenda,” he said.

Leaders present at the event included James Orengo  (Siaya Senator); Charles Kibiru (Kirinyaga Senator); MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Otiende Amolo (Rarieda), Dr. Christine Ombaka (Siaya) and Gideon Ochanda (Bondo)
