Raila, Ruto join leaders in condoling with Moi family
Deputy President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga have expressed their sorrow over the death of Jonathan Moi, first born son to former Head of State Daniel arap Moi.
In a statement to newsrooms, Dr. Ruto and Mr. Odinga termed the deceased as an enthusiastic, competitive and masterful rally driver.
“He was sociable, affable and loved a good laugh. Jonathan treasured family, friendships and committed himself to bettering the lives of others,” DP Ruto said.
Mr. Odinga on his part said his family ‘wishes strength to the former President and his family to bear the loss.’
Jonathan Moi died on Friday evening in Nakuru after a long battle with cancer, his brother Gideon revealed in a statement.
Leaders from across the political divide sent their messages of condolence to the Moi family on Saturday.
They include CJ David Maraga, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Senators Moses Wetangula (Bungoma) and Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. (Makueni), Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.
“Jonathan was well known as an outstanding rally driver in the heydays of the Safari Rally. May God give Mzee Moi and his family the fortitude to bear this heavy loss,” CJ Maraga said.
Senator Kilonzo added: “Rest In Peace Jonathan Moi . Safari Rally enthusiasts will remember you and your famous Toyota Celica.”

“JT will be remembered for his generosity , humility and friendly disposition to all. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Senator Wetangula said.
“With the untimely demise of Jonathan, Kenya has lost a highly dependable leader and a renowned motor sportsman,” Mr. Kalonzo added.
On his part, Speaker Muturi said: “My heartfelt condolences to Retired President Moi, Hon. Raymond (Moi) and Sen. Gideon Moi and Mzee Moi’s entire family. Jonathan, a down to earth patriot has left a mark in Kenya’s Motorsports industry.”
