Raila says Jubilee not committed in fight against graft

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga insists that the Jubilee administration has not been genuine in the war against graft.

He pointed an accusing finger to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto of failing to inculcate a culture of transparency and accountability in the country.

He accused them of shielding top officials accused of perpetrating graft.

Odinga said that Kenya should borrow a leaf from Rwanda, Nigeria and Tanzania where persons accused of graft have been prosecuted and sent to jail.

“In countries like Rwanda, President Paul Kagame prosecuted and jailed his own brother. It does not matter who you are, if found culpable, you should not be spared,” said Odinga.

The opposition chief pointed out at mega graft scandals in the country among them the Eurobond scandal, the National Youth Service (NYS) scam, and the Afya House scandal as some of the Jubilee administration’s most undoing.

He said that the opposition has been impartial in the war against graft dismissing claims that he has failed to act in cases where governors allied to the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) have been accused of corruption.

Odinga said the war against corruption can only be won if the government of the day is committed to lead the same.
