Raila shares ID number with another voter

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader, Raila Odinga, now claims that he shares the National Identity Card number with another person.

Odinga claims that he shares his ID No. 4838593 with a Ms Ombai Maria Anyango who had been registered as a voter in his polling station.

“Ms Anyango is using the same card in the same polling station where I vote. I confirmed this at two different polling stations in Kisii and in Isebania in Migori County,” said Odinga.

Odinga claims that this is a ploy by the Jubilee administration to lock out potential voters.

This happened in the same week CORD co-principal, Kalonzo Musyoka, also claimed that he discovered that he shared his ID card details with another voter who had been registered with similar details.

“These developments are shocking and worrying. They point to criminal negligence, incompetence and failure or a product of a hasty and incompetent attempt to shore up registration numbers for some players with the involvement of the National Registration Bureau and the Ministry of Interior.”

“We demand from the Ministry a very clear explanation for these occurrences and a categorical statement from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that this is enough reason for a thorough audit and cleaning of the voter register and that it will be done before elections. The Opposition will accept nothing less.”

Odinga has also demanded for a fair issuance of national identity cards across the country after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive that issuance of IDs be done within three days.

Raila has also demanded for a weekly publication of IDs issued to enable the public track the process.

In a statement to newsrooms, the CORD leader lamented that despite the President’s directive coming too late, the order should be applied across the country and not in a partisan manner to favour Jubilee.

“This order must not be implemented in the selective and partisan manner that favours perceived Jubilee strongholds, a trend that has been part and parcel of the Jubilee administration these past four years,” read the statement in part.

Elsewhere, ANC leader, Musalia Mudavadi, who was speaking Budalang’i, Busia County has warned Kenyans against waiting for the last minute to register as voters, expressing fear over the low turnout.

Separately, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, says CORD fully supports the appointment of Wafula Chebukati as the new IEBC chairman.
