Raila skips Kitui West rallies due to bad weather

National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga skipped several campaign rallies that had been scheduled to take place in Kitui West on Monday ahead of the by-election in the constituency.

Sources close to Mr. Odinga said the former prime minister failed to attend the rallies due to “bad weather.”

This came barely a day after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka addressed a string of rallies in the region, assuring their supporters that NASA was intact and Odinga had not joined Jubilee.

The opposition leader was set to join his coalition co-principals in traversing the constituency in solidarity with Wiper Democratic Movement party flag bearer in the upcoming by-elections, Edith Nyenze.

Edith Vethi Nyenze, widow of the late Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze, is set to face four other contestants in the race, namely; Elijah Muimi Kilonzi (Chama Cha Muungano), Robert Mutiso Lelli (NARC Kenya), Dennis Muli Mulwa (Independent) and Dr. Frida Nyiva Mutui (Kenya National Congress.)

The by-elections are set for Monday 26 March.

The Kitui West parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Mr. Francis Nyenze who succumbed to Colon cancer in December 2017.
