Raila speaks on fake boycott Safaricom advert
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has dismissed as “fake”, an image that looks like a newspaper advert circulating on social media claiming that the National Super Alliance (NASA) has called for “an immediate boycott of Safaricom Limited and their products across Kenya.”
In a tweet, Raila stated that NASA Coalition had not placed any such advertisement in any publication.
“NASA Coalition has not placed any such advertisement in any publication.”
The advert claimed that the opposition had called on its supporters across the country to boycott Safaricom “as a measure of the people’s voice against the ongoing efforts by Safaricom Limited and the Jubilee Party to steal yet another election”.

The fake advert was trying to capitalise on the frosty relationship between the telecom and NASA. Two weeks ago, Raila had threatened to call for a mass boycott of Safaricom products claiming that the telecommunication services provider was complicit in tampering with August 8th election results.
Safaricom Chief Executive Bob Collymore, however, denied the claims by the opposition terming them as “callous and unnecessary”.
Safaricom was among the three mobile network providers hired by the IEBC to transmit election results in the last General Election. The leading telecom is expected to conduct the same role in the coming October election.
