Raila speaks out ahead of swearing-in

NASA leader Raila Odinga has insisted that opposition’s swearing-in plans are still on course.

Speaking on Tuesday afternoon to a local media house on phone, Raila said he will be headed to Uhuru Park where NASA supporters and leaders are gathered for the much debated and controversial swearing in.

“Today is a very historical day for the nation of Kenya, I would say the most important day since the independence of this country,” said the opposition leader.

While urging their supporters to remain calm and maintain peace, Raila promised to announce at the venue the specific provisions of the law they will be using for the ‘swearing-in’.

Raila was however hesitant to reveal who will administer his oath during the ceremony.

Further, the NASA leader rubbished claims that Tuesday’s ceremony is an attempted coup, saying that the opposition will demonstrate to Kenya and the world that the oathing process is legal.

“We don’t recognize the October 26th election because 80 percent of Kenyans did not participate in the process. The will of the people is unstoppable and today is the first step to Canaan. No doubt that our journey to Canaan is real and unstoppable,” said Raila.

While responding to the media switch off by the government earlier, the opposition chief said: “It’s very unfortunate what has happened today, and it confirms that we have descended to the levels of Uganda. We did not expect that this will come to our country and it must stand condemned.”

The NASA leader emphasized that the opposition is only pushing for electoral justice, judicial independence, ethnic inclusivity, strengthening devolution and instituting police reforms.
