Even as Kenyans online continued to slam or supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s new taxes, ODM leader Raila Odinga has spoken out, thanking ODM party members who voted in support of the new taxes.

According to Raila, those who supported the Finance Bill in the National Assembly on Thursday came through at a critical moment when the move was necessary in solving Kenya’s problems.

“I assure Kenyans of my commitment to the pursuit of a lasting solution to the country’s decades old problems through pragmatic steps arrived at through bipartisan support devoid of the traditional rhetoric and brinkmanship,” said Raila.

In a statement released by his Director of Communication Dennis Onyango, Raila indicated that the NASA team had agreed to support the Finance Bill and those who voted for it played their part in delivering the party agenda.

In what seemed like an indirect warning to those who opposed the Finance Bill in the chaotic sitting on Thursday, Raila says party discipline required that all ODM members follow the party line.

“…Party discipline which enables the Parliamentary Group to support the policies and directions of the party is critical to strengthening the political parties system in the country, delivery of the party’s agenda and aiding the process of democratization,” added Raila.

The Opposition Chief was also keen to note that supporting President Kenyatta’s new taxes was part of the delivery of the promises and dreams as envisioned in the building bridges initiative, started after the historic handshake at Harambee House.
