Raila supports Kalonzo on joint CORD nominations
Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, has supported the proposal by Wiper Democratic Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, to hold joint nominations and field single candidates for parties under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).
In a statement to newsrooms, Odinga said in the arrangement, all parties will present candidates for nomination and the overall winner will fly the coalition’s ticket as ODM/ CORD, Wiper/ CORD or Ford Kenya/CORD.
“The coalition will encourage the other parties willing to come on board to support this arrangement that enables them retain their identity while flying the corporate CORD flag. This arrangement will help the coalition avoid competition between constituent parties that saw them split votes and lose seats in some cases,” read the statement in part.
Already, there is a proposal by Kalonzo to have CORD registered as a political party.
Odinga has previously said that he would back whoever is picked to lead the coalition in the 2017 presidential election.
There has been push and pull within CORD over who will lead the party in the presidential race with all the three affiliate parties ODM, Wiper and Ford Kenya fronting their party leaders for the position.
