Raila to Ruto: Ask your boss why you are being targeted in graft war

Raila Odinga has told DP William Ruto to seek answers from President Uhuru Kenyatta if he feels targeted in the graft war.

The ODM leader who declined to go into detail about his war of words with Ruto said any links to corruption on Ruto were in effect tainting the presidency.

“I don’t want to talk about Ruto. If he feels that he is being targeted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), then he should ask the President,” Raila said during a meeting with a section of Rift Valley leaders at his Capitol Hill office.

This comes weeks after DP Ruto allies accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of being used by criminals and politicians to advance a political agenda.

The over 15 MPs drawn from the Rift Valley region said the attacks on Ruto stemmed from the ongoing 2022 succession debate.

Leaders in Ruto’s camp also accused Raila of using his handshake with President Kenyatta as ammunition to fight the Jubilee party from within.

While addressing the same issue, Ruto asked that corruption cases be handled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and not the DCI–which he accused of playing politics.

His statement opened a can of worms with leaders accusing him of undermining the will of the President who appeared hellbent on fighting corruption.
