Raila,Wetangula storm police station, demand release of Babu Owino

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga and co-principal Moses Wetangula on Saturday January 20, stormed Parklands police station demanding the release of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who was arrested on Friday.

The two opposition chiefs met the OCPD of Parklands Police Station to know the reasons behind the arrest of  the controversial MP and why he could not be released immediately.

Mr. Owino was arrested on Friday outside Parliament buildings following accusations of assaulting a parking attendant on January 11 at Westlands.

“This is an intimidation of NASA lawmakers. The State is using police to intimidate the opposition and we will not allow that to happen,” said Odinga.

Earlier, University of Nairobi (UON) students took to the streets and marched to the police station demanding the release of the legislator.

They blocked the road and burnt tyres in a show of support for the lawmaker.

Police lobbed teargas to disperse the students who had engaged in a scuffle with the officers manning the gate of the police station.

Babu Owino will be arraigned in court on Monday.
