Rarieda residents decry frequent attacks by wild animals

Residents of Ndunya Village in Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County have decried the increased frequency of attacks by hyenas.

The residents, who are now appealing to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to come to their aid, expressed agony of living in constant fear of being attacked by the wild animals from the nearby Naya Hills that invade their homesteads at night and kill their livestock.

Men from the village armed with crude weapons have tried in vain to comb through the hills to flush out the animals.

Mzee John Haya, one of the residents, told Citizen Digital that their daily activities have been greatly affected, as they fear encountering the animals.

According to the village elder, at least five homes have been attacked in the past one week.

The residents now want KWS to restrain the animals from attacking their homes or transfer them to a game park.
