Rasanga orders Siaya-Bondo water company board to resign

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has asked the Siaya- Bondo Water and Sanitation Company (SIBO) Board of Directors to resign and give room for competent people who can effectively run the company.

In a letter addressed to the SIBO company management, the governor asked them to pave way for selection of an efficient team that will ensure proper implementation of water supply services across the county.

Governor Rasanga has given them a two-week ultimatum to voluntarily resign, failure to which he will be forced to find an alternative way of disbanding the board so that new people can be selected to give Siaya residents proper services.

This comes only two days after SIBO workers resumed duty following a two-week strike that the called by their union officials over Ksh5.1 million salary arrears that had accrued over the last three months.

Siaya and Bondo, which are the major towns in the county, have had acute water shortage for more than two months and in his letter the governor stated that his government cannot be allocating funds to the company if it cannot pay its workers to give services to the residents.

SIBO workers led by the Secretary of the Kenya County Government Workers’ Union SIBO branch Mr Walter Omolo had also accused the management of misappropriation of funds and non-remittance of their statutory deductions.
