Real Madrid Line Up Benitez as Carlo Ancelotti Replacement

The former Liverpool manager is yet to sign a contract with Real Madrid, though negotiations are at an advanced stage.

Reports indicate that the 55-year-old Spaniard is expected to take over as Real manager after his season with Italian side Napoli ends on Sunday.

Real Madrid sacked Ancelotti on Monday after just two seasons in charge.

The 55-year-old Italian led Real Madrid to their 10th European Cup last season, but his failure to win a single trophy this season overshadowed that historic fete.

Benitez was a manager in Spain with Valencia in 2001 to 2004. He then joined Liverpool in 2004 before moving to Inter Milan in 2010.

After one season at Inter Milan, Benitez took over as an Interim manager at Chelsea in 2012 and later joined Napoli in 2013.

Carlo Ancelotti had earlier stated that he would take a year off from coaching if he's sacked by Real Madrid.

Real finished second in La Liga on 92 points, two behind fierce rivals Barcelona, and ended the campaign without any silverware.

Paul Clement Leaves Real Madrid

Meanwhile, Real Madrid assistant manager Paul Clemet is set to replace Steve McClaren as Derby County head coach, according to BBC.

McClaren was sacked on Monday after Derby failed to make the Championship play-offs.

This will be Clement's first job as club manager, having been number two to Carlo Ancelotti sat real Madrid since 2013.
