Rebel Jumwa rubbishes rumors about Raila, posts photos with Ruto

Aisha Jumwa was the talk of the town on Tuesday after a supposedly surprise meeting with ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Pictures of the rebel MP, who no longer identifies with the ODM party, had been widely shared online causing jitters in several quarters.

Rumor was rife that she had ditched DP Ruto’s camp after Mr. Odinga visited her at the Parliamentary Service Commission office.

“Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa says ODM is her home and her DNA is ODM. She says she fully supports Bernard Imran Okoth, our candidate for the Kibra Parliamentary seat in the November 7 by-election,” ODM wrote on Facebook.

The post was later deleted as Jumwa denied the claims insisting that Mr. Odinga’s visit was unexpected after he attended the ODM Parliamentary Group meeting at County Hall.

She insists that she did not attend the said meeting. “I did join H.E Dr. William Ruto and other legislators in a meeting with Divine Church elders at Mash Park Hotel, Nairobi to drum up support for Mariga for Kibra MP,” she said on Twitter.

Jumwa was expelled from ODM in March this year on claims of disloyalty but a tribunal declared the party’s decision as null and void two months later.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal said ODM did not follow due process as there was no formal, written and signed complaint filed with the party.

On Tuesday, the supremacy battle pitting the Tangatanga and Kieleweke camps against each other played out in Parliament buildings as insiders from both factions sought to gain control of the ‘unexpected’ situation.

A section of DP Ruto’s allies were reportedly making frantic calls to establish whether media reports about Jumwa ‘dumping Ruto’ were true.

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale maintained that the Malindi MP did indeed take part in the party meeting earlier in the day.

“Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa today (Tuesday) officially ditched Team Tangatanga and vowed to vigorously campaign for Bernard Okoth Imran for the Kibra Parliamentary Seat. She attended the party Parliamentary Group meeting at County Hall chaired by Party Leader H.E. Raila Odinga. Imran was also introduced to the members,” a message on his Facebook page reads.

He also posted a cryptic message on Twitter: “If you want to know a tower that is made of clay, try to pour water on it and you will see how the owner will jump out with anger.”
