Red Cross appeals for Ksh. 500M to help flood victims

The Kenya Red Cross has made an emergency appeal for Ksh. 500million to support families affected by the ongoing floods.

A report from the humanitarian agency recently revealed that over 100 people have been killed following flash floods across the country.

Secretary General Abbas Gullet called on the Government and well wishers to help them raise the funds.

“48,177 households have been displaced so far. This translates to 260,200 people,” he said during a Press briefing on Friday.

According to Dr. Gullet, many places are inaccessible and there is a huge risk of disease outbreak in the flooded areas.

At least 32 counties have been affected by the ongoing floods, he added.

Those worst hit as Tana River, Kilifi, , Garissa Kisumu, Isiolo Mandera, Turkana, Marsabit, Makueni, Kajiado and Kitui.

The funds drive seeks to help flood victims with shelter and settlement; health and nutrition; water and sanitation as well as food security and livelihoods.
