Red Cross boss testifies in Garissa ambulance lease case

Kenya Red Cross Secretary General, Abass Gullet, has testified before a Garissa Court in a case in which Garissa Governor, Nathif Jama, and six of his former tender committee members are charged for irregularly leasing ambulances from the society.

Gullet told Garissa Chief Magistrate, Cosmas Maundu, that he had no direct role to play in the contract between the Emergency Medical Services and Garissa County Government, that led to the leasing of seven ambulances from Kenya Red Cross.

He also said he did not counter-check the draft agreement as he saw no need to do so.

However, Gullet agreed that he signed the agreement together with the governor, but did not give the details of the agreement.

Former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) regional head, Abraham Kemboi, who was in office then, is set to testify on Thursday.
