Red Cross donates food, household items to Siaya floods victims

The Kenya Red Cross Society in collaboration with the office of Alego Usonga MP, Muluan Omondi, has donated relief food and emergency household items to over 150 families displaced by floods that swept through Usonga location of Siaya County.

Speaking during the distribution of the items at Nyadorera, Red Cross representative in Siaya County, David Madara, said they carried out an assessment of the situation before compiling a list of the victims.

Madara noted that the organization has managed to provide blankets, bottled water, mosquito nets, tents, soaps, household items and water treatment solutions to the victims.

The official also announced that the water levels have so far subsided to 5.1 meters down from the initial 5.7 meters.

Madara also advised residents living in flood-prone areas to move to higher and safer grounds in order to avoid suffering the effects of the floods.
