Redesign road at Salgaa black spot, MP tells gov’t

Mathira MP Peter Weru has called on the government to redesign the road at Salgaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway in Nakuru County to avert further loss of lives at the deadly spot.

Weru was speaking following an incident where seven family members perished at the spot in a grisly road accident on Saturday.

Speaking on Monday at Iruri Village in Mathira during his visit to the family, the MP urged Kenya National Highway Authority and National Transport and Safety Authority to work on redesigning the road as an urgent measure to curb unnecessary loss lives.

The MP blamed the accident on traffic police officers who he said failed to ensure traffic rules are observed.

He also urged the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to set up a permanent traffic patrol base at Salgaa that will help monitor traffic around the clock.

While condoling with the family, Nyeri County Governor Nderitu Gachagua said that he would support the family financially to help to facilitate the burial of the victims.

“It was unfortunate that the accident claimed multiple lives from the same family. I would like to inform this family that I and the county government are going to stand with them during this trying moment,” said Gachagua.

The seven will be laid to rest on Saturday at Iruri Village in Mathira Constituency.
