Sossion: I forgive those who tried to sack me

Wilson Sossion has said individuals and teachers unions that fought to remove him from the top seat at the Kenya National Teachers Union (KNUT) have been forgiven.

The announcement comes after he won a court case that sought to bar the Registrar of Trade Unions from deregistering him as Secretary General.

In response to the ruling, Sossion maintained that he will continue to act in his capacity as Secretary General.

“I was not suspended as SG. This has been mere politics or wishful thinking. It was unconstitutional,” he said in a letter sent to newsrooms.

His “forgiveness” statement seems be pegged on a plea by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during the State of the Nation address on Wednesday, for reconciliation among feuding Kenyan leaders.

The two leaders asked for forgiveness from wananchi and also said they have forgiven those who wronged them especially during the charged election campaigns period.

On Thursday, the court directed that the teachers union refrain from interfering with the Sossion issue until the case is heard and determined.

The trade unions registrar and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have also been blocked from “registering, appointing, placing, validating or admitting any other person as Secretary General” in place of Sossion.

This means that Hesbon Otieno Agola, who was to take over, has been ejected.
