Release bursary funds, MCA tells Siaya governor

Central Alego Ward representative, Leonard Oriaro, has today (Wednesday) urged Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga to use his executive powers to release the long awaited county government bursary so as to ensure needy students in the county have access to education.

Speaking during a ceremony for the construction of ECDE centers at Kochieng’ and Ndai primary schools in his Ward, the MCA implored the governor to consider suspending activities such as foreign trip and direct such monies towards payment of school fees for bright and needy students.

Oriaro, who lamented that the potential beneficiaries of the bursaries are suffering because the release of the funds has taken too long, stated that as an assembly they are ready to protect the governor to ensure the students’ education is supported.

“There should not be a problem with the bursary issue because the County Bursary Act which was initially missing had already been put in place,” said Oriaro.

The MCA who is also the chairman of the county assembly’s oversight and implementation committee assured the public of their commitment to support matters of education, noting that they will ensure that state of the art ECDE centers are constructed in all primary schools across the county.

At the same time, the Oriaro has petitioned the government to take necessary action against the police officers who shot and killed anti-IEBC protestors in Siaya Town.
