Released emails raise questions about Clinton Foundation ties

A new crop of emails released on Tuesday (August 10) has reignited questions about the Clinton Foundation’s influence on the State Department during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.

Conservative critics have long charged that her charitable foundation awarded donors with special favors and access at the department.

Clinton, now the Democratic presidential nominee, has previously denied any inappropriate relationship between the two entities.

The 296 emails were made public by Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group, which had filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the State Department.

Several included Huma Abedin, a top adviser to Clinton at the State Department who also held a position at the Clinton Foundation.

In one email exchange from 2009, Doug Band, a longtime aide to former President Bill Clinton, wrote Abedin and other advisers that it was “important to take care of” a certain person. The name has been redacted from the document.

Abedin replied, “We have all had him on our radar. Personnel has been sending him options.”
