Remain united and focus on development- President Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged residents of Nakuru County to maintain peace and focus on the development of the region.

The President said Nakuru is a cosmopolitan county and the residents should embrace harmony to set a good example for the rest of Kenyans.

The President spoke when he addressed a leaders’ meeting at Nakuru State House in the morning where he announced a raft of development initiatives to boost the economy.

President Kenyatta later addressed multitudes of people who lined up the streets of the town where he repeated his call for peace, unity and development.

President Kenyatta called on the leaders gathered at State House and all Jubilee leaders in general whether at the national or county level to speak with a common voice.

“Let us speak in one language. We are serving one people with one purpose and we should speak with one voice,” said the President

He said there are politicians who are trying to incite Kenyans against each other but they should be rejected.

“There are many who have tried to undo the agreements and vows we made at Afraha in 2013 that never again will the blood of innocent Kenyans be shed because of politics,” said the President.

Afraha Stadium is where President Kenyatta and the DP first held a prayer rally where they announced their resolve to reconcile Kenyans and forge a united front to maintain harmony in the country.

“The journey we started at Afraha Stadium is still strong and we are committed to it 150 percent,” said the President.

He cautioned Kenyans to be wary of politicians who thrive on chaos and are busy scheming how to cause disunity in the nation.

President Kenyatta said the Government has invested billions of shillings to boost the economy of Nakuru.

Besides the billions spent on the geothermal power sector in Nakuru, many billions have been spent or allocated for many projects that are specific to the county.

Among the mega projects the Government is implementing in the country include the construction of mega dams.

The construction of Itare Dam which will cost Ksh38 billion will be launched in June.  When completed, Itare Dam will ensure Nakuru town and its environs will never run out water

The Government is also spending billion in the construction of roads in the county. The roads include Njoro-Nesuit, Elementaita-Mau Summit, Mauche-Olenguruone, Maili-Kumi-Solai-Rongai road which will cost Ksh 1.5 billion, Kasarani-Oljorai-Lanet, and another road in Nakuru West.

The President also announced that each of the five constituencies in Nakuru will each get Ksh 100 million to construct a technical training institute to empower the youth to learn skills to earn a living.

President Kenyatta who was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto said the Government has been busy focused on development despite the noise emanating from pessimistic critics.

He said 130, 000 households in Nakuru have been connected to electricity in the last three years alone compared to 146, 000 since independence to 2013 before the Jubilee administration came to power.

The President said 675 schools have been connected to electricity with only 34 remaining under the Government’s grand plan to ensure all schools in the country have power to enable students to learn under better and secure environment.

The President also said the Government will undertake measures to revive the pyrethrum sector.

He also said the  Government will allocate funds to construct an airport port in Nakuru Town.

Deputy President William Ruto also urged the residents of the county and the whole region to embrace unity in order to achieve progress.

Leaders led by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua who spoke at the event thanked the President for the development initiatives.
