Remaining bodies in Patel dam tragedy identified

All bodies of the victims of the Nakuru Patel Dam tragedy have reportedly been accounted for after the two remaining were identified at the Nakuru County Government morgue.

The two, a female adult and her male child, were identified by their relatives on Sunday afternoon.

Philip Ekeno, a brother to the deceased woman, said he positively identified the two bodies following a four-day search after undergoing counseling by Kenya Red Cross society staff.

Ekeno said they had been going through a very difficult moment since the Wednesday night incident.

Interdenominational prayers were held on Sunday at Solai trading centre and were attended by, among others, Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui.

Governor Kinyanjui said the county government had waived mortuary and postmortem fees for those who died as a result of the tragedy.

F0llowing the collapse of the Milmet dam, one of the 8 dams in Patel farm, the Kenya Defence Forces water engineers were deployed to discharge water from Tindres dam, the biggest of the Patel dams to avert a similar tragedy.

A statement on Twitter on Friday said the IG is expected to hand over a report on the same within two weeks.
