Report: 70pc of Counties Employ People Based on Ethnicity

This is according to a joint parliamentary commission report on national cohesion and equal opportunities that will be tabled in the National Assembly and Senate.

The report states that more than half of the counties encourage tribalism and violate the constitution by encouraging tribalism in creating employment opportunities for their own people.

This comes after National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman Francis Ole Kaparo submitted the report to The National Alliance (TNA) chairman Johnson Sakaja.

INTER-COUNTY TRANSFER

Sakaja said that his committee will be seeking for an amendment to allow for inter-county transfer of employees, which will eradicate tribalism that is being propagated in the counties.

He further said that his committee will be sitting with the Council of Governors and public service commission to ensure that the matter is fully addressed.

Among the top 10 counties that reportedly encouraged tribalism in employment include Bomet, Nyamira, Kirinyaga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kisii and Tukana.

The report also lists Marsabit, Tana River, Nairobi, Mombasa, Isiolo, Lamu and Narok among counties that ensured there was minimal to no tribalism in seeking employment include.

At the same time, Ole Kaparo revealed that his commission will next week embark on a mission to audit the heads of government parastatals appointment recently by the president to determine the constitutionality of the process.
