Republican presidential nomination already won Trump

As Donald Trump rolled up wins in Northeastern states on Tuesday (April 26) the Republican presidential candidate spent his evening at Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential gala in New York.

Trump easily defeated rivals John Kasich and Ted Cruz in all five states that held contests, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware, with a margin of victory rivaling that of his home state of New York a week ago.

Even before all the votes were finalized Trump had already claimed the win.

“I think we’ll see a winner pretty soon, and I look forward to getting to Indiana. And actually tonight I look forward, very forward to seeing the results, because I hear they are great, but the final results aren’t out. But I hear they are far beyond even the polls.”

Republican White House rivals Cruz and Kasich announced a deal on Sunday to stay out of each other’s way in some upcoming state primaries in hopes of blocking front-runner Donald Trump from winning the party’s presidential nomination.

“I think it’s been a terrible deal for them. I think it makes them both look weak and foolish and desperate. It’s a deal that frankly in business, you wouldn’t even allow a deal like that, it would be illegal. But it really makes them look very weak and very desperate and it’s collusion, collusion is not a good thing,” said Trump.

Cruz’s campaign said in a statement he would focus on Indiana and give Kasich a clearer shot in Oregon and New Mexico, states where the Ohio governor expects to do well. Kasich, in turn, agreed to shift resources west and away from Indiana.

Before heading in as one of the night’s honorees he dispelled rumors he has been told to modify his behavior.

“No, nobody’s told me to act more presidential, that I can tell you. I think we’re going to keep it the way it is,” said Trump.

“I think, just to put it very, very nicely, we’ve run one of the great campaigns ever. We started off with 17 people and now we’re down to essential me, because the other two have no path to victory,” he added.

Trump outlined what his first year as president would entail.

“The big thing that I want to do – first of all we’re going to build up our military, we’re going to strengthen our borders, but we’re going to bring jobs back. We were just talking about African-American youth, and we’re going to bring jobs back to this country because the jobs have been taken out by other countries. And that will be great and that’s what I look forward to doing,” said trump.

“African American youth has a 59 percent unemployment rate, which is a record and we’re not going to let that happen. We’re going to get them good jobs, we’re bringing our jobs back to this country.”

The Daily Show host, Trevor Noah said he has been having fun with the presidential race on his show, but admits the jokes are coming too easy.

“I like comedy to not write itself, but rather present itself and then I can write about it. This election cycle is a lot of the news writing itself and so you have to try and find something unique that’s happening in there. It will calm down though and that’s when I think everyone will enjoy it more.”

Arianna Huffington, the editor-in-chief of the online news publication, The Huffington Post, expressed concern about Trump’s rise to power.

“We are very concerned about the rise of Donald Trump – a very dangerous moment for the country. So we are doing our part to remind voters who he really is.”

Actress Mia Farrow is pushing for a Democrat to remain in the White House.

“Of course I feel the Bern, but I think realistically, I’ll be voting for Hillary and I think she’ll be an excellent president.”

Clinton, already in control of the Democratic race, defeated challenger Bernie Sanders in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Her only loss of the night was to Sanders in Rhode Island.
