Residents Protest Over Alleged Land Grabbing
The residents were protesting over alleged massive land grabbing including school plots and areas preserved as graveyards in Nyali constituency.
They lit bonfires to protest grabbing of land by influential individuals whom they accused of using courts to intimidate them.
The locals led by a director of one of the schools earmarked for demolition said they were shocked to learn that their land had been grabbed.
The director, Suleiman Tchivatsi said that this was done as the schools prepared for their final examinations.
According to the residents, more than 10 houses and schools are earmarked for demolition.
The residents are now calling upon Mombasa county leadership to keep 2013 election campaign promises by addressing their grievances.
