Residents suffer as Migori water crisis worsens

Residents of Central Sakwa ward in Bondo Constituency have given Siaya County government a one-week ultimatum to solve the current water crisis in that region, failure to which they will stage a massive demonstration.

The residents, led by Central Sakwa Ward Development Council Chairman Dominick Omath and member Peter Aduwa lamented that they have lacked water for the past eight months, but the county’s water department has done nothing to deal with the situation.

They lamented that the lack of clean and safe water for drinking has forced the residents to consume unclean water, resulting in numerous cases of cholera and other waterborne related diseases.

Aduwa lamented that women and children are currently being forced to walk over 8 kilometers to look for water, adding that the situation has made most facilities including schools and health centers in the region unmanageable.

The Water Development Council members revealed that they visited the county government offices and managed to meet the Deputy Governor Wilson Ouma Onyango and County Secretary Dave Anyona who promised them that the matter will be fixed by Wednesday next week.

They have, however, warned that they will be forced to take to the streets if the issue is not resolved on time
