Residents to sue over county cash mismanagement

A section of Nandi residents have threatened to go to court over alleged reports of massive corruption in the County Government.

Led by Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) chairman, Sammy Choge and Nandi Rock Conservancy chairman Alfred Tum, the residents said corruption and mismanagement of resources will bring the county to its knees.

Speaking in Kaptumek area in Aldai Constituency, Choge called on residents to demand reports of status of development projects and spending from the county government to ensure accountability and transparency in resources utilization.

Choge further told residents that he suspects the ten million shillings allocated for the renovation of the Nandi Rock Tourist attraction site was embezzled by top ranking county officials.

The ten million shillings allocated in the 2014-2015 financial year was to cater for the gravelling of Kimaren – Nandi Rock road, erection of ladders, walk ways, fences and toilets on the site so as to make it more appealing to tourists.

On Friday, Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat reiterated his commitment to ensuring the county is free of corruption.

Recently, the County Government of Nandi was in the headlines over the proposed multi-million gate at Mlango near Uasin – Gishu, a proposal that attracted public criticism on how the county governments are mismanaging funds.
