Resign and seek fresh mandate, ODM officials tells Mvurya

Kwale County ODM officials have asked Governor Salim Mvurya to resign from his position and seek fresh mandate from the electorate on the Jubilee Party ticket.

This comes after Mr Mvurya announced on Saturday that he will ditch ODM and support the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 General Election.

Speaking at the Msambweni Branch ODM offices, the officials said that Mvurya should go for the launch of the Jubilee Party and go to the county having resigned and start his campaigns to be re elected in a by election.

“We are challenging him to go for the launch and resign immediately after coming back to the county ready to seek fresh mandate,” said Msambweni ODM chairman Abdallah Banda

Currently political parties affiliated to Jubilee are holding separate National Delegates Conferences in Nairobi to ratify decision to dissolve the parties and merge to form Jubilee Party on Saturday 10th.

Mambo said that Mvurya ditched ODM for fear of influential politicians within the party in the Coast region.

“Mvurya feared the Deputy Party leader, Hassan Joho, and we are wondering why he should fear him and he is just a governor like him,” he said.

The officials said they will call different stakeholders in CORD coalition to vet all those who want to run for the gubernatorial seat with ODM ticket and pick one candidate.

They argue that Kwale is an ODM  zone and the seat must be retained within the party.

“Mvurya is behaving like a son who has two fathers, biological and step father, and he has opted to run to the step father now the curse of the biological father has caught up with him,” said Sheikh Amir Banda the Msambweni ODM adviser.
