Retired ACK bishop charged with defiling 14-year-old girl

A retired bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Bondo Diocese, was on Monday arraigned in court and charged with defilement.

Appearing before Bondo Principal Magistrate Moses Obiero, Rev. Johannes Otieno Angela charged with defiling a 15-year-old Class Eight pupil contrary to section 8 (1) of the Sexual Offenses Act of 2006.

The court was told that Rev. Otieno committed the act on the night of June 27 and June 28 this year at Majiwa village in Bondo, Siaya County.

He denied the charge and was released on a bond of Ksh.200,000 or Ksh 100,000 cash bail.

According to court documents, the girl reported the incident at a local children’s home and a medical check-up confirmed that she had been defiled.

The accused was also charged with an alternative count of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section 11 (1) of the Sexual Offenses Act 2006, by intentionally touching the private parts of the minor, charges that he also denied.

The case will be mentioned on July 16, while the hearing was set for  July 30 and 31.
