Retired medical officer arrested for defiling, impregnating disabled minor in Migori

A retired medical officer in his 60s accused of defiling and impregnating a minor living with mental illness and physical disability has been arrested and is being detained at Migori Police Station.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday evening at Apida estate in Suna East after the minor gave birth on April 14, 2021 and revealed that he was responsible for the baby.

The 16-year-old girl told authorities that the retired medical officer defiled her on a day he had gone to their home to treat her but her mother was away.

The area village elder Consolata Odongo said the girl’s mother only realised she was pregnant when she was awoken by her cries while undergoing labour pains.

Mrs. Odongo said it was very unfortunate that a girl who cannot even sit stably because of disability was impregnated by a mentally stable man.
