Revealed: Makangu the cat meat seller

James Kimani aka Makangu hit the headlines last week after he was discovered selling cat meat to unsuspecting samosa vendors.

Makangu, who comes from Kamwago village, was caught red handed slaughtering a cat.

He was arrested and later revealed that he has been selling cat meat for seven years.

Makangu was charged with two counts; slaughtering an animal not fit for human consumption and slaughtering the cat in an undesignated area contrary to Section 2 of the Meat Control Act.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo then sentenced him to two years imprisonment for the first count with a fine of Ksh.200,000 and another fine of Ksh.50,000 or one year in prison.

Makungu’s brother, who spoke to Citizen Digital on condition of anonymity, revealed that this is not the first offence he has been charged with.

According to him, Makangu has always been in and out of prison constantly accused of  theft.

The brother said it got so bad that they demolished Makangu’s house as neighbours constantly stormed into their compound complaining about stolen property.

Makangu was apparently sent to an approved school but ended up beating his teacher and was kicked out.

“I would rather he stays in prison than continue being a bother to the society,” the brother said adding that the family would not appeal the sentence as they “don’t have money and time to waste”.
