Riek Machar sworn in as South Sudan vice-president

South Sudan rebel leader Riek Machar was sworn in as first vice president after returning to the capital Juba on Tuesday for the first time since conflict broke out more than two years ago.

Machar resumes a post he held before conflict erupted in the country in December 2013, reportedly precipitated by his sacking.

Machar was last week expected in South Sudanese capital but a row over his security detail caused an impasse.

South Sudanese government had announced on Monday that it is ready to receive Machar who is set to be sworn in as the first Vice President of the Republic in a ceremony slated for Juba.
