Rival Jubilee groups in near fist fight over campaign committee

Two rival groups came to a near fistfight in Embu after one of them took to the streets to oppose the appointment of Manyatta Member of Parliament John Muchiri to lead the county’s Jubilee presidential campaign team.

Chanting different slogans, the demonstrators took to the streets to express their disapproval of the appointment

The group, led by Dickson Gitonga, said that the opposition of Muchiri’s appointment is advised by his status as a politician thus making his susceptible to external influence and partiality.

One of the protesters, Martin Muchangi, called on the president to appoint another person with no vested interests and the desire to bring the people together, rather than divide them.

The other group, in support of Muchiri, termed the protests as insincere saying they (protests) were carried out by hired goons who were out to tarnish the name of the MP.

One of pro-Muchiri supporters, Ribatera Mutitu, accused a section of aspirants who are vying for the Manyatta parliamentary seat of working against Muchiri by using the electorate to build their name.

On his part, area MP John Muchiri defended himself by saying that he was appointed to head the committee, owing to his ability to unite the people.

Muchiri lashed out at aspirants and leaders who are against his appointment, saying President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy did not err in picking him.

The president early November also appointed Raphael Tuju to head the party’s secretariat. The team also comprises all the former executives directors of constituent parties that closed shop to form Jubilee.
