The Government has set aside Ksh 680 million for expansion of the Rift Valley Textile Mills (RIVATEX) in Uasin Gishu County, Deputy President William Ruto announced Wednesday.

Mr. Ruto, who was speaking at the plant during the launch of the pilot laptop and tablets assembly project by Moi University students, said there is need to focus on the manufacturing sector in the country.

The DP said the jubilee administration will work closely with stakeholders in the manufacturing sector in order to give a fresh lease of life to the ailing industry.

By expanding the textile plant and purchasing equipment to facilitate manufacturing operations, the government aims at reviving the cotton industry.

The DP asked all Principal Secretaries and Heads of Parastatals to ensure services are integrated to the e-procurement tendering services within the shortest time possible in order to strengthen government – supplier relationship by making information accessible and making the tendering process transparent.

While unveiling a 27 -storey Moi University Pension Scheme Plaza in Eldoret town, the Deputy President also hailed the cooperative’s spirit in the country noting that it was transforming the lives of its members.

He called on universities to lead the way on matters of innovation, research and technology to ensure quality education for Kenyans.
