River Nyamindi Accident Victims Laid to Rest

The five victims who died in an accident after their car plunged into River Nyamindi have been laid to rest at Mikinduri location of Tigania East Constituency in Meru County.

Fredrick Gitonga, 32, his wife Susan Gitonga, 30, their son Pascal Kimathi, 5 and his brother Robert Maingi, 22, were buried in a mass grave in Kithiru village while the late Denis Mwiti, 11, was buried separately besides his grandfather’s grave in Akaigi village.

Tigania East Member of Parliament and Meru County Women Representative together with local leaders joined the families in St. Massimo Catholic Church in Mikinduri as the procession later proceeded to bury the bodies at Kithure Village.

The late Dennis Mwiti’s church service was conducted at their home where he was buried later.

Alloys Gitaru, brother in law to the Mother of the deceased, thanked the county government, local leaders, family members and friends for their assistance during the difficult period as they laid to rest their loved ones.

Gitaru urged well wishers to help Martha Nkiringa, the mother of the two brothers, as she depended on her sons.

The five met their death when their vehicle plunged into River Nyamindi in Kirinyaga County as they were travelling to Nairobi from a funeral service.

Justa Karimi, the mother to Dennis Mwiti, was the only survivor.
