Road rehabilitation project enters second phase

The Jubilee flagship project of re-carpeting 10,000km has now entered the second phase with over 1,000kms of roads already tendered for.

This was revealed on Wednesday when contractors visited some of the roads that are set to be repaired in the agriculture rich area of Kinangop as part of the pre-tender site visit.

Addressing the press after the visit, KERA Engineer Hilary Apiri said the second phase that is targeting an extra 1,000km is expected to kick off in three months when the tendering process will be done.

“We have finished the first batch of the first phase where 1,000kms have already been tendered for and we are now entering the second phase,” he said.
Nyandarua County is among the counties that are set to benefit under the government’s annuity program that seeks to improve road infrastructure.

The engineer added that Nyandarua County would benefit from 69km of repairs under the second phase

“Kinangop will benefit from 32kms from Engineer – Kirima- Murungaru – Ndida – North Kinangop hospital under this project.”
Apiri also mentioned that other constituencies set to benefit were Olkalau and Ndaragwa, adding that contractors could bid for the roads in 60 days.
Kinangop MP Stephen Kinyanjui Mburu, who was in attendance during the visit, said that they expected the contractor to be on site by January next year.
He noted that for years farmers had suffered due to bad roads but expressed optimism that it would soon be a thing of the past.

“Our produce has faced challenges in reaching the market but once the three roads are done we expect better returns,” said Kinyanjui.
