Roads and Education are my priority CCMs John Magufuli says

Tanzania’s ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) on Saturday closed its campaigns for presidential elections set for Sunday, October 25th, 2015.

CCM’s candidate Dr. John Pombe Magufuli held his last campaign in the capital of Dar es Salaam before heading to his home region of Mwanza where he will hold a ‘small’ rally ahead of the Sunday poll.

Dr. Magufuli, who held the rally at the famous Jangwani Grounds, said that his government – should he be elected the fifth president of the United Republic of Tanzania – will work hard to eliminate poverty, improve education and infrastructure.

Magufuli said that his government will be keen on improving education saying that there is a need to revise the education system saying that the education system in its current state cannot guarantee the young generation of better job prospects.

He said that his priority will be to ensure free and quality primary and secondary education for all as well as make it compulsory for all Tanzanians.

He dismissed opposition Chadema’s candidate Edward Ngoyai Lowassa’s promise that he will offer free education from elementary to university level to all Tanzanians despite their economic, social and political affiliations.

He said that the promise by Lowassa was unachievable with the current state of the economy. He said that despite the country enjoying a relatively stable economy; it is not possible to sustain free education at the University level – at least for now.

However, Magufuli said that with time, his government will be able to offer free university education once the economy stabilizes.

Further Magufuli said that his government will turn-around the infrastructural development of the East African country by expanding the already existing ones and setting up new projects.

His strong point being on the expansion of roads, Dr. Magufuli said that he will concentrate on developing new road networks in the country and especially in major urban areas.

He also promised to expand the port of Dar es Salaam as well as fast track the development of the Bagamoyo Port to ease congestion at points of entry and exit and expand the capacity of the ports.

The CCM candidate noted that the country has experienced very high rates of unemployment and he will create jobs especially for the young people to address this.

He said he will ease the regulations of doing businesses in order to create more chances and jobs for the youth.

Magufuli will face-off with Lowassa and six other candidates in Sunday’s poll.
