Robbers kidnap bride hours to wedding

A wedding was nearly ruined after thieves kidnapped the bride in Micobo, Kiambu County but dumped her as soon as they realised she was getting married a few hours from when they accosted her.

The bride, Eunice Kathure, was heading to the best man’s home accompanied by the bridesmaid, two flower girls and the driver of Friday night.

When they arrived, the best man noticed something was amiss after the watchman took longer than usual to open the gate. It was then that he noticed that his home had been broken into and they were walking into a trap.

He took off leaving the other four in the car with the engine still running.

When the robbers realised their mission was about to abort, they came out of the house and detained the four in the car.

After a brief altercation with the robbers, the bridesmaid too escaped. The thieves were now left with the bride and the two flower girls.

They drove off albeit with pleas from the bride to let her and the flower girls go. After driving for 200 metres, they stopped the car and freed the two flower girls.

They were now left with the bride who tried to explain to them that she was getting married in the morning but they would have none of that.

They again sped off but this time they turned their attention to robbing valuables including the bride’s phone and gifts that were in the car.

After making sure they had stolen all that they could, they let the bride go.

The wedding however took place on Saturday morning with the now free bride and the bridegroom terming the robbery as a “distraction” from the happiest day of their life.

“The wedding was always going to happen because the thieves were not targeting us anyway. We love each other and we want to enjoy our wedding day,” said the bride.

Her sentiments were echoed by Mr. Bernard Kiarie, the bridegroom.
