Politicians warned against disrupting electoral process

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has urged the national government to take stern action against groups that will try to sabotage this year’s General Election.

It is believed that a section of local politicians are planning to hire goons who will disrupt the electorate and prevent candidates from vying for their respective seats to their advantage in the coming August polls.

The senator, who was speaking to residents at Kangeta Catholic Church in Igembe Central, said this illegal activity would not be taken lightly.

“We are asking the government to take action against all those who will want to disrupt these elections,” he said.

This comes after five suspects were arrested on Saturday for allegedly buying weapons meant to disrupt campaigns in Meru, although in a phone conversation with Citizen Digital on Sunday, Meru County Police Commander confirmed that no weapons were found in a raid on the suspect’s homes.

Investigations into the case are ongoing and the senator has since called for the suspects to face the full wrath of the law to serve as an example for anyone with similar intentions.
