Rongo bans sale of petrol in jerry cans

Rongo Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Satia has banned the sale of petrol products in jerry cans in the area to avoid cases of arson and accidents caused by petroleum products.

Mr Satia announced that his office would write a memo to all petrol stations instructing them to stop selling petrol to individuals on jerry cans, adding that they will take punitive measures against the petrol station operators who contravene the directive.

The DCC raised concern over the increasing number of individuals selling petrol in jerry cans adding that motorists found carrying petrol in jerry cans will also be apprehended.

The directive comes following cases of arson allegedly done using petrol in Rongo Sub County, with the latest being on 22nd October 2016 where a woman died and her two children sustained serious injuries in a suspected arson attack using a petrol in North Kamagambo area, Rongo Sub County.
