Rongo health facility temporarily closed after 10 staff test positive for COVID-19

A health facility in Rongo temporarily suspended outpatient services after 10 medical officers tested positive for COVID-19.

In a letter seen by Radio Ramogi, the management of Lwala Community Alliance Health Centre said the decision is in compliance with the COVID-19 regulations from the Health Ministry.

“Some services such as maternity care are still being offered under strict COVID-19 guidelines,” the letter reads.

Migori County chief officer public health Fidel Majiwa confirmed the partial closure of the facility.

He said the county department is working closely with the Lwala Alliance for contact tracing and to provide other necessary support to ensure the facility is compliant with the set protocols.

Mr. Majiwa said the 10 medical officers are among the 14 cases that were reported for Migori County on Thursday, October 15, 2020.

He revealed that out of the total 14, one patient aged 18 years succumbed to the virus at the county treatment centre in Macalader, Nyatike sub county.

As of Friday, October 16, Migori County had recorded over 350 cases of COVID-19 and a total of six virus-related deaths.
