Rowdy Embu men in court after losing bet on Spain in World Cup

Two men have admitted to being drunk and disorderly, saying they were in pain after a team they were supporting and had bet on during the ongoing FIFA 2018 World Cup lost a match.

Appearing before Embu Resident Magistrate Jean Ndengeri, Victor Macharia and Marcus Mugendi pleaded guilty to the offence.

The two were accused of using abusive words in public due to the alcohol they had consumed on July 2, 2018, at around 10pm.

The court heard that the two were arrested by police officers on patrol who booked them at Embu Police Station.

The accused admitted to being drunk claiming it was to ease the pain they were feeling after their team, Spain, lost a match against Russia and were bundled out in the Round-of-16 stage of the World Cup.

They duo said the much of the pain was also due to the fact that they had placed a bet of a substantive amount of money on Spain, adding that they could not contain the loss and found themselves cursing.

They pleaded for leniency saying they would not repeat the crime and were sent to jail for one month or a fine of Ksh.500.
